How the 2015 Emmys unfolded

From the seats in the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles to sofas from coast to coast, Twitter’s rich TV community turned to Twitter to celebrate this year’s Emmy awards, sharing reactions, congratulations, and glimpses of the show throughout the night.

As the show unfolded, the live experience played out with these most-discussed moments of the evening:

  1. Viola Davis wins Outstanding Actress in a Drama for “How to Get Away with Murder” and gives a powerful speech as the first black woman to win in this category
  2. “Game of Thrones” wins Outstanding Drama Series, award presented by Tracy Morgan
  3. “Veep” wins Outstanding Comedy Series
  4. Jon Hamm wins Outstanding Actor in a Drama for “Mad Men”
  5. Uzo Aduba wins Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for “Orange is the New Black,” thanking her sister

As a time to celebrate the best performances in TV, here were the most-discussed stars of the night:

  1. Lady Gaga (@LadyGaga)
  2. Viola Davis (@ViolaDavis)
  3. Jon Hamm
  4. Amy Poehler (@SmrtGrls)
  5. Tatiana Maslany (@tatianamaslany)

Since so many TV shows have a massive Twitter following, fans were in full force to support their favorites. Here are the programs that got the most attention:

  3. Orange is the New Black (@OITNB)
  4. American Horror Story (@AHSFX)
  5. Mad Men (@MadMen_AMC)

Apart from the red carpet festivities, Twitter facilitated substantive conversation during the evening. In partnership with the Television Academy (@TelevisionAcad) and Amy Poehler’s @SmrtGrls, the #SmartGirlsAsk campaign encouraged viewers to Tweet a compelling question to any Emmy nominee for a chance to see their question answered live on the day of the show via a Twitter Mirror app on the red carpet.

In addition to a batch of compelling questions and answers, thanks to Twitter Mirrors, Vines and Periscope broadcasts, we saw lots of celebrity shots courtesy of @EW and @extratv.

Of course, there’s no better way to get the Emmy experience than from the stars themselves. Here are some of those highlights:
